Here we are Number 52!!!!
That’s right this is the 52nd blog since I have begun this
journey and I thought we should reflect and laugh.
So when you hear 52, you probably think of 52 weeks in the
year, maybe a favorite sports hero who wore the uniform with 52 on it or even
the B-52 bomber. I got to be somewhat
familiar with this plane when our son went through the phase of loving
airplanes.
But for today, it represents the number of blogs that I
have written with 7,336 views in the following countries: Unities
States, Germany, Dominican Republic, Canada, India, Pakistan, Poland, Sweden, Thailand,
Russia, Ukraine, Haiti, Mexico, Belize, and France. That blows my mind. I can easily question why, but then I have to
trust that someone connected, someone enjoyed a laugh or someone was touched by
God through me.
But moving on as to why I
started this. When we were ready to move
from Iowa, many people (including us) couldn’t believe we were doing this and
wanted to hear of how our experience was going.
So I figured the easiest way was to blog. But it soon became clear that not only could
I share the experience, the laughs, the struggles, but I could also share how
God was and is at work.
Well, we are definitely not in
Iowa anymore. I realized this recently
through a couple of “findings”. While I
have never been a fisher ”man” I do now live near the Columbia River and have
so enjoyed my many walks there. Also I
have enjoyed watching the many varieties of birds, even throughout the winter
months. They did not migrate from
here. I have recently been thinking that
I might enjoy fishing and the sitting along the river with a pole in my
hand. So I looked up what a fishing
license would cost. Well in Iowa this is
what you would find:

Wow, what choices. Since I found all of this I thought I would
compare the hunting licenses. For Iowa
you can choose from
Deer Hunting, Turkey Hunting, Migratory
Game Birds, Trapping
& Fur Harvesting, Pheasant
& Small Game
Here in Washington State there are
a few animals we don’t usually see in Iowa:

Oh
my goodness! Well, I am certainly not
taking up hunting – that is out of my league.
I wouldn’t mind a simple fishing pole and even a kayak someday. Something to put on my mini bucket list.
|
||||||||||||
I was also recently reminded that I
am not in Iowa anymore with the announcement that it is soon the deadline to
remove your chains from your tires. In
fact, here in Richland we never even used a snow shovel this year and I only
had to use an ice scraper I think maybe 3 times.
Then of course there is the
soil. In Iowa we have beautiful black
dirt that is rich for plant growth. Here
it looks to me like ash, but technically it is called loam. And plenty of rocks and boulders. Washington State does have some of the
highest yields for wheat!
Moving on – while Phil was recently
looking over our homeowners insurance he noticed we are now covered for volcano
damage. I’m sure most of you remember
the eruption of Mt St Helen’s in
1980. I found this map showing the 5 active volcano’s
located in Washington. There are
actually 10 volcanoes altogether. (We live in the SE part of Washington)
Well this led me to research
earthquakes. Yes, they are happening
almost daily. There were 3 just 2 days
ago, but they were on the West side of the state and the magnitude was low and
not felt by anyone. While Iowa is still
one of the few states that does not experience earthquakes usually, there was a
3.5 earthquake a few years ago in Hamburg Iowa.
We don’t have tornadoes, mosquitoes,
or much lightening here. But the wind
you have in Iowa is much less than the windy days that occur in the Columbia
Basin area.
What I am trying to say is it is
very different than Iowa, doesn’t mean it is better or worse – just different. We are enjoying the different. It is good to see parts of the country that
God created that we have never been too.
Are there risks? Yes there are,
there are no matter where you live. So
trust in Him, enjoy your surroundings, and celebrate creation.
And to close this 52nd
blog – thanks for reading. Thanks for
sharing this experience with me and I hope we will continue to travel together.
